Storms Predicted for Monday Afternoon
A ‘storm’ is likely to hit the Oulu area on Monday afternoon, according to the Finnish Meteorological Office.
Winds of over 20m per second will gust through the region and are likely to cause some damage to property, the office added.
In the Gulf of Bothnia itself, seamen can expect to experience winds of up 23m per second.
It is also predicted to rain heavily in Oulu from the afternoon onwards, with rains continuing into Tuesday.
Strictly speaking, according to the Beaufort Scale, the winds of 20.8m per second are actually classified as a force 9 ‘strong gale’ likely to cause branches to be blown of trees, small trees to blow over and damage to temporary signs and construction work.
