Ten members of infamous biker gang United Brotherhood were handed jail sentences on Thursday at Oulu district court for attempted extortion with violence, drug possession and assorted other offences.

The United Brotherhood gang’s trial meant that security at the Oulu courthouse had to stepped up. The gang are notorious for their use of violence and, according to the judge Suvi Kokko, it was a collector for this gang, Juha Vähäsarja, who was responsible for the Pizzeria murder in Kaukovainio in February.

Of the ten people sentenced, six of them were already in prison for other offences. One of the ten defendants was female, and they ranged in age from 19 to 37.

The heaviest sentence, of 2 years and four months, was given to 25 year old Teemu Ylitalo for home invasion, attempted extortion and drugs offences. 23 year old Tuomo Ristokangas received 2 years and 2 months for similar offences.

The crimes occurred at the end of last year and the beginning of this year in the view of the judge the prosecutor clearly established that the defendants were acting ‘in the gang’s name’ rather than as individuals.

The court also ordered the confiscation of various weapons belonging to the gang including a handgun, two crowbars, an axe and a baseball bat.

United Brotherhood was established in 2010, bringing together members of M-O-R-E, Rogues Gallery and Natural Born Killers.
