Delays in North Due to Massive Snow Storm

Posted on February 20th, 2012 by News Editor in News

The Oulu region and Lapland witnessed delays yesterday due to a relentless snow storm lasting most of the day.

Snow ploughs couldn’t keep up with the level of snow fall, leading to train and aeroplane delays and roads that were difficult to drive on. This was especially true of smaller roads which snow ploughs did not manage to reach until relatively late in the day. In some parts of the city, passable paths were covered by knee-depth snow by the end of the evening.

Strong winds hampered snow clearance and transport even further.

According to the Transport Agency, Oulu was by far the worst city yesterday in terms of snow. Many aeroplanes were delayed by up to an hour leaving Oulunsalo Airport this morning. In addition, a high speed due to arrive in Oulu at 7.45 this morning was around an hour late.
