Price Comparison Site Wants Help of Oulu Expats
An international cost of living comparison website called expatistan.com is looking for more information on Oulu, amongst hundreds of other less represented cities.
The site, run by a Prague-based software engineer called Gerardo Robledillo, aims to build up a comprehensive database of prices in different cities, allowing expats and travellers to make informed comparisons. It relies on the very same people to provide it with the prices and currently 101,500 users have entered prices for 1215 cities.
At the moment it claims that the price of a standard ‘Daily Menu’ in Oulu in 10 euros, which makes it 25 percent cheaper than Helsinki, 68 percent more expensive than Bombay and, apparently, 41 percent cheaper than The Hague.
It then lists the current price of everything in Oulu from a litre of petrol to a loaf of bread, prices which seem uncannily accurate despite the intuitively odd prices disparities between Oulu and some European cities.
At the moment, the site specifically wants to know the cost of a month’s gym membership in the centre of Oulu and the price of cold medicine. It invites Oulu users to send in any other information that could help.
