International Children’s Film Festival Begins

The 30th International Children’s and Youth Film Festival takes place in Oulu this week.

The festival, which includes a special ‘Danish Day’ on Tuesday focusing on children’s films from that country, will include a photo exhibition showcasing the best images captured by young people as well as the usual variety of over 100 children’s movies and shorts from around the world.

Films on offer will include the Norwegian produced Liverpool Goalie, German-made ‘Lilly the Witch’ and the Chinese film ‘The Star and the Sea.’

In addition to the international competition, there will be an award for the best Finnish children’s film which will include such contributions as ‘The Little Snow Animal’ and ‘Garbage Prince.’

The films will be competing for a series of prizes. These include the Kaleva Prize (3000 euros) which is awarded to the director whose film is preferred by a jury of Oulu children, the Youth Friends’ For Tomorrow Prize, for the best overall film, and ECFA Prize, for the best European film.
