Air Guitar Championship This Week
Oulu’s 17th international Air Guitar Championship – Oulu Air Guitar Festival – takes place 22nd to 24th August.
The festivities begin on Wednesday with an Airientation Evening for the participants which includes a bike road through the city and a sauna.
Thursday evening will see the ‘Dark Horses Qualifying Round’ where anybody can turn up at 45 Special and attempt to wow the judges into letting them into Friday’s final.
And on Friday evening, Rotuaari will rock to the ‘Grand Final,’ beginning with the Declaration of Air Guitar Peace at 8.15pm. The Grand Final will include national champions from all over the world as well as the ‘Dark Horses.’
The World Air Guitar Championship has taken place every year in Oulu since 1994. Last year, the winner was Aline ‘Devil’s Niece’ Westphal from Germany. The Top Ten included air strummers from Russia, France the Czech Republic, the USA and Belgium.
