Elk and Deer An elk had to be shot dead in Myllyoja last weekend as it was intent on not leaving town. It was running in Kastelli and Myllyoja, reports Kaleva. The police had the first call about the elk running in Kastelli but it had already reached Myllytulli when the police, despite attempts to scare it away, had to put it down on Hiukkavaarantie.
Another death occurred on Pohjantie when a car hit a deer. The accident took place south of Oulu in Ouluntulli on Saturday night. The car was heading south when the deer stepped right in front of it. The stag died of the impact immediately. Dangerous Match Games Ten-year-old boys started a grass fire in Talvikangas in Oulu last weekend. About an acre of grass burnt next to Lumilyhdyntie until the fire was extinguished. The police have the names of the boys involved and their parents will be contacted shortly. Police also remind all parents to emphasise to children the dangers that might follow from playing with matches and also the responsibility to pay for any damages. A Bicycle Theft Gone 'To Sleep' Police were tipped about a bicycle thief at the bus station last Friday. When they arrived at the scene, they found the drunken thief asleep on top of the bike. He had managed to break the lock but was then obviously overcome by tiredness. The tired thief later admitted to stealing the bike. The police have not been able to establish the owner of the bike and it is currently in lost property.
