Poplars Give Way to District Heating Print E-mail

ImageThirteen great poplar trees on Laanaoja next to Raksila have been removed to give way to district heating works. The rest of the poplars in the area are also to but cut down later this year as the district heating-related works continue. New plants will not arrive until next spring, says Taina Penttilä, a gardener of Oulu City.

Penttilä also states that the removal of this Populus 'Rasumowskiana' in the city area is largely due to the overwhelming number of complaints by Oulu residents who were suffering allergic symptoms due to the poplar seeds. This type of poplar has already been removed from Heinäpää and Linnunlammentie.

This has reduced the number of complaints, says Penttilä, but at the same time she reassures that the City will not go as far as to remove every Populus 'Rasumowskiana' in town.
