“The Mystery of Bosphorus” and “Istanbul: The Imperical City, “ a Turkish-themed postcard and photo exhibition, opened in the Northern Ostrobothnian museum (Pohjois-Pohjanmaan museo) on April 11.
The postcards, depicting 1895-1914 Istanbul, are the private collection of the Turkish ambassador to Finland, Mr. Reha Keskintepe. The dislpay was suggested to his excellency during a recent visit to Oulu. The postcards are unique, because they are the first cards of the century. The photographs are from the Suna and Inan Kirac 19th and early 20th century collection. They offer glimpses into daily life, architecture, and the cultural coming-to-terms of Turkish women in an increasingly modern society. The exhibit is open until 18.05.2008, at the museum building in Oulu’s Ainola park.
