A survey conducted during 2006 and 2007 has ranked Oulu the top province in Finland for interaction between development and vocational education.

A total of 188 vocational institutes took part in the survey, which was commissioned by the Ministry of Education. The worst results were found in the province of Eastern Finland, while the best individual region was Kainuu in Oulu province.

"Vocational training has been an integral part of regional development plans for years now," stated Pertti Kokkonen of Oulu's Educational Department of State Provincial Office. The province has also invested in opportunities to allow teaching staff to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in their fields. (Kaleva)
