Recruitment Difficulties Hit Oulu Print E-mail

Northern Ostrobothnia is experiencing a tough beginning to the year when it comes to recruiting in certain sectors, reports Kaleva. In January 52 jobs were found hard to recruit for whereas the number was 27 a year ago.

Most problems are experienced in the industry sector. Extended recruitment periods have hit particularly hard jobs such as a machinists, cutters and press break workers. The actual jobs that are currently listed as highly difficult to fill are those of a machinist, welder, home day-carer, practical nurse, pharmacist, dentist, cook and construction manager.

Other sectors that have long suffered from recruiting difficulties are health care, social work and the service industry. Agriculture and forestry, building and commercial sectors, however, are gradually improving their recruitment prospects.  The main reasons found to be behind the recruitment difficulties are said to be insufficient basic vocational training, lack of work experience and high salary demands. That's true - but also some kind of bad joke: How can you demand work experience from school graduates for example? I have difficulties to get a job because of a lack of work experience. But how to get it when not getting a job? I have good grades on my certificate though .. but that does not seem to interest anybody. On one hand, work experience is demanded, on the other hand job applicants should be as young as possible. How does that fit together?
