The Swedish furniture chain Ikea will open a shop in the end of 2006 at Haaparanta, a town at the Finnish-Swedish border neighbouring the Finnish town of Tornio. The shop will be 23.500 square metres large and sell about 8.500 products. That is the same capacity as Ikea shops usually have. The parking place will hold 1.200 cars. Inside the store there will be a restaurant with 450 places, a bistro, a small food shop and a playing room for children. There are already two Ikea stores in Finland; one at Vantaa and one in Espoo. One can find Ikea all over Europe and it has a great popularity. Ikea in Haaparanta offers 100 working places. The customers will be served in Swedish and Finnish and accepted currencies are with Swedish Crowns or Euros. Furniture shops in Oulu welcome the concurrent and believe that they will not loose their customers. (*) Kaleva, 09.06.2005
