Oulu University library purchased Library PressDisplay in order to let exchange students and foreign researchers read their own domestic daily newspapers. Foreign newspapers are expensive and take a considerable time to arrive in Finland. Even the domestic Finnish newspaper Aamulehti arrives in Oulu the day after it is published. "University librarians felt they were paying for 'old' news," said Tiina Jounio of Oulu University Library. "But now, for the price of couple of foreign newspapers, they are able to buy the whole Library PressDisplay service and have access to hundreds of international papers. Many patrons have been delighted to see that also Aamulehti is available in the Library PressDisplay catalogue and now they are able to read it 'hot off the press'." Offering more than 450 newspapers from 70 countries in 37 languages, often before they reach their local markets, Library PressDisplay is particularly popular with foreign students and expatriates. "Library PressDisplay is an excellent service for our customers because it makes all newspapers available instantly," said Pirjo Lipasti, information specialist at Helsinki City Library. "The number of titles included in the service is so large that there is something for almost everyone, regardless of their mother tongue. With Library PressDisplay we are able to offer our patrons titles that we could not offer before." Jaana Isojärvi of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences also reports that Library PressDisplay has been very popular. "There are a big number of foreign exchange students in Jyväskylä, and Library PressDisplay has served their needs very well. Librarians have been marketing the service and showing students how to use it. The service has been used heavily with the number of users constantly rising," he said. "PressDisplay service has been a huge success among our clientele," said Janne Järvinen, CEO of LehtiMarket Oy. "This new newspaper service has been well received within the academic and public libraries. It has been a valuable supplement to our conventional subscription management services." "Instant access to all of the world's news is proving to be a critical requirement for attracting and retaining patrons in local and university libraries," stated Alexander Kroogman, CEO of NewspaperDirect. "Today, hundreds of libraries around the world recognize that Library PressDisplay is the most convenient and affordable way to offer clients access to the most prestigious publications in the world, often before they hit newsstands."
