A new exhibition starts in the art museum on May 16 and lasts to June 3. “Historia artificialis” combines dancer Antti Kairakari's interpretations of the scenic and the visual arts, emphasising ‘adventure’ and ‘success.’ “Viewers can move to another world by being at the helm,” comments the artist. “They can play in a stream or in wind, float logs, or be the first or the two thousandth person who succeeds in building an aeroplane." Guided tours are available in English. Oulun Sinfonia offers several events. The male choir Huutajat lead by Petri Sirviö will visit Oulu on May 6 at 19.00, their program including premieres of works by Tapio Tuomela, Asko Hyvärinen, and Jouni Kaipainen. Paavali Jumppanen will perform “Tchaikovsky’s Fifth” including Franz Liszt’s Hamlet, a Symphonic Poem no 10, Piano Concerto no 1 A-major by Béla Bartók, and Piotr Tchaikovsky’s Symphony no 5 e-minor, op. 64. Tickets to both events cost 6/13/17€. On May 12, vocal ensemble Rajaton will perform “Thank you for the music” at 15.00 and 18.00. Tickets cost 25€. May has two events particularly for kids. On May 3 at 18.00, pupils from the Oulu Music Classes will perform “All together Now!”; tickets are 6 euros. On May 16 at 17.30 and 19.00, “Barbar- Fairytales of Music” will tell the tales of Babar the elephant, “adventures and stories with music and the voice of Nicke Lignell as narrator.” Can’t sit still as the weather gets more sunny and friendly? Get out your running shoes and take part in the nineteenthTerwahölkkä and Marathon on May 26. You can enter a 42.2 km Marathon, a 1/4-marathon (10.34km), or a 1/2-marathon (21.1 km). The race starts near hotel Eden; pick up entry information at the race office by May 26, 11am.Four football games are up this month, AC Oulu meets FC Inter on May 3, AC Oulu meets TamU on May 16, AC Oulu meets TPS on May 23, and AC Oulu meets MyPa on May 27. All the games take place at 18.30 at the Castreni field in Paulaharjuntie. Families with children should definitely pay the Suomen Tivoli at Kuusisaari a visit. The fair offers a variety of fun rides for children and adults alike, like the Ferris wheel, which gives you the opportunity to view Oulu from above. Suomen Tivoli are around from May 25 to June 18. Of course, the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 takes place in the Hartwall Arena of Helsinki on May 10 (semi-finals) and May 12 (finals). If you can’t make it to Helsinki, you can follow the event live on TV on YLE of the days of the semi-finals and finals. Or go see Hanna Pakarinen live on May 4 at Club Teatria. The first show at 18.00 has no age limit. The second show at 17.00 has an age limit of 18. Tickets are 15€/12€. Markku from Finland has his own tv-show on SubTV until May 11. Every morning, he entertains everyone who understands Finnish for half an hour some time between 8.00 and 10.00. Fans of fishing, hiking, nature, travel, hunting shouldn’t miss out the “Northern Finland Outdoor Life Fair” (Pohjois- Suomen Erämessut) from May 17 to May 20 at Ouluhalli hall. According to the organisers, the fair offers a possibility for interested people to meet and it includes several shows, seminars, action and lotteries. You can reach the fair by bus, since the airport bus stops close to the fair area. People in the social and health sector with some knowledge of the Finnish language might be interested in the training and exhibition event taking place from May 23 to May 24. “Terve SOS 2007- Creative and courageous change” is supposed to provide a platform for professionals or students.
