This year’s Oulu music festival will take you all the way to Cuba, USA and even Brazil. From the 10th all the way to the 19th March there will be a huge array of international performers and musicians showing you what they do best.

The programme will include 24 songs taken from a Medieval manuscript, Carmina Burana. It is a manuscript collection of over 1000 poems and songs written in the early 13th century. It includes songs on religious themes, satirical songs, love songs, drinking songs and religious plays. The performance that will take place in the Oulu’s music centre is Carl Orff’s set of 24 songs based on the selection of lyrics from the script performed by almost 300 performers.

If you want to jazzy and classical music dance hits from Cuba, Brazil and USA don’t miss Saturday’s performance in the Oulu’s city hall. With two great pianists, Vanessa Cunha, a Brazilian living in New York and Mika Rännälin this show will not leave you cold. The following nights, guests will be able to enjoy sounds of violins, guitars, flutes, cellos and many more. One of them is a master violinist/guitarist Niccolò Paganini from Italy performing on Sunday.

There is something for almost every taste. On Monday those with passion for chamber music will get their turn by visiting the Fireworks of the transcendentally beautiful and popular chamber works. Tuesday is reserved for a classic of Swedish cinema with live music called Phantom Carriage (Körkarlen). On Wednesday two continents meet in a form of Finnish lyrics with Brazilian rhythms. If your Thursday evening is free you can go and listen to the modern troubadour Zarkus Poussa and his own works in English and Finnish. The festival organisers have not forgotten about the younger audience. On Saturday there will be a children’s concert about the adventures of a beloved Finnish teddy bear. Followed on Sunday is the Real Group’s performance and the best of the world famous Swedish a cappella Ensemble. The festival will end with the music from the Baroque era on Monday.
