In a white Oulu by the snow, Morley danced. On a mid-December Thursday, the Morley band played in Onnela for a special birthday party for clothing shop “Oneway”. The seven members of the band comprise: voice and guitar, Juho Kauhanen; background voice and guitar, Jarkko Viinamäki; drum, Panu Koskela; keyboard, Timo Molainen; bass, Jouni Haapakoski; saxophone, Olli Tuomainen; and trumpet, Jakko Jauhiainnen. They started to play at 9:30 pm and had the crowd dancing for an hour to the rhythm of Indie rock, also drawing the attention of passersby. The Morley band was born in Oulu in 2003 as a studio project of Juho Kauhanen. Is a youthful band, with peoples’ ages around 24 years old. The inspiration for the name Morley comes from one of Juho’s passions: the science-fiction programme X-files. Morley is a brand of cigarette that “the Cancer man” smokes in the series. The band was first composed of six members, but in 2004 Jarkko Viinamäki joined. The first album, “MORLEY”, came out in July 2005 with eight tracks. Another album (as yet unnamed) is coming in next February 2007. Before then the band has decided to work on the next single, “You”, a love song, but the rest of the album will follow the same Indie rock style as before. The next album will be mixed in Göteborg at “Svenska gramophone studio”. According to Jarkko Viinamäki, the reason to do it there is because it is one of the best studios in Scandinavia During the Christmas period, they are not planning any gigs in order to focus all their attention on the birth of the new album. Despite that, Jarkko claims that now the band will spend a couple of weeks relaxing and all the activities will start again in the new year.
