A young man died on Tuesday morning after a fit on a pylon, the site of his work practice.

The student, on the second year of a degree in electrical engineering, was training with Oulu Energy for his studies. He had begun to dismantle a redundant cable with older installation personnel at Pyykösjärvi. According to bystanders he climbed to a half-way point up the nine-metre high pylon, then collapsed against it. The pylon wires were not live at the time.

Police were called as well as rescue helicopter Sepe, whose crew declared the student dead.

A memorial ceremony will be held in memory of the young pupil at the Kaukovaino unit of Oulu’s technical college.
