Dangerous grenades were found in Oulu and Kuivaniemi, according to the newspaper Kaleva.
Defence forces sent a bomb squad on Thursday to fetch dangerous grenades from building sites in Oulu and Kuivaniemi. Pekka Haapola, lieutenant in charge of the mission, commented, “this is a livelier year than usual.”
One of the grenades was reported by Jani Katisko, a resident in an old terraced house in Oulu’s Heinäpää district. Digging in his cellar, the shovel hit an anti-tank grenade. “It was down a meter and a half, so deep I hadn’t dug there before.” The Heinäpää grenade was a little bigger, but otherwise the same as a grenade that had killed a Tampere man five years ago. A german grenade, it had obviously been brought to the cellar as a souvenir from the front.
The bomb squad moved on to Kuivaniemi, where a digger had unearthed a shell. This grenade had been found on the building site of a detached house.
