British electronics maker Filtronic PLC, a producer of components for mobile phone networks announced on Tuesday 31st October that it would cut 127 jobs in Finland. Earlier in September, at the start of a round of statutory cooperation procedure talks, the company announced that it had plans to lay off 140 of its staff in Kempele near Oulu. Filtronic's wireless infrastructure division was acquired by a US based company Powerwave Technologies in October this year. Powerwave's Finnish operations - in Kempele, Oulu and Raahe – are to be reorganised as a single unit. Filtronic ComtekOy, the Finnish unit of Filtronic PLC, designs and manufactures filters and filter units for wireless communications equipment. Filtronic Comtek has facilities (LK Products) in Kempele and Oulu. It shed 140 employees in February this year but later re-employed them as demand for a key product improved, according to the online edition of Finnish business newspaper Kauppalehti. That product is now no longer in production and the job cuts do not affect jobs in product development or administration. http://www.filtronic.co.uk
