Finns are the fourth most satisfied with life out of the EU countries, according to a Eurobarometer poll.

The poll – conducted by the European Union – found that the Danes, Swedish and Dutch are more satisfied with life than the Finns.

The Bulgarians, Hungarians and Greeks are the least satisfied.
The poll interviewed 27,000 people across the EU.

Is this poll measuring satisfaction, or
It's an international poll - we always want to come top of those!

Talking about
Although a valid point, I don't think the poll is manipulated because Finns answer it in order to show off.

I would rather think that there seems to be a solid institutional interest in Finland to present itself to the rest of the world (probably to the common Finn as well, so no one complains about the drastic changes taking place in this country) as the coolest and nicest place on Earth.

And, unfortunately, the way news like this one are picked up and put out of the whole context is a good example of it.

It would be good for Finland to have a publication, digital or on paper, where one could read about the country without such a strong bias and so many actors playing their interests on it.

The same poll, just to mention a few things, showed that:

1. Finland is the European country where corruption is perceived to have developed the absolute most in the last 2 years. The score of Finland in this question is higher than the result of combining together the score of the countries in 2nd and 3rd place.

2. Finland scored 5th in the whole of Europe in country where discrimination because of ethnicity exists.

Talking about re-thinking stereotypes, think of that and stop boasting about the same things.

The rest of this poll can be seen at the Eurobarometer's website:

Beyond pessimism
Okay well it does belong to Finnish culture to be a bit pessimistic so I will give that to you but come on, I thought there were somethings we could look beyond. Maybe I am just in a good mood but I think we should take this as it is. Yeah, we can be critical but if Finland seems to be a good place in someones eyes, why not?
