The free Finnish-language classes offered by Northern Ostrobothnia Kesayliopisto began again yesterday evening. The classes – run in Oulu city centre – attracted expats from as far afield as Australia, the Ukraine and China.

Termed ‘Finnish Extra’, the classes allow foreigners to simply walk in – without registration – to practice their Finnish and ask any questions they may have from an experienced Finnish teacher.

The classes are run on Tuesdays (for Intermediate Finnish speakers) and Wednesdays (for Beginners). They start at 4.30pm and last for an hour and a half.

As they are funded by the Finnish National Board of Education, the classes are completely free.
