Children in the Playschool of Music
A new English language music playgroup, attached to Oulu Conversatoire (Oulun Konservatorio), will offer group lessons once a week to five and six year olds, starting August this year. Canadians Stephanie and Nathan Archer, teachers of The Playschool of Music, will use the Kodály method to teach young children through folk songs.  Kodály’s aim was “music and singing at school in such a way that it is…a joy for the pupil.”

Lessons will involve song, ryhthm through clapping, stamping, and hand-drums, musical awareness activities, and musical games. “It’s also about pronunciation,” comments Nathan, “and giving them a small vocabulary by the end of the year. They’ll make really good sounds with the words they’re using.” From time to time, guest teachers will also introduce classical instruments.

The Conversatoire will accept applications in the order of enrolment – unless more applications are received than places available, in which case applicants will be selected at random. Application forms are available at the Conservatoire offices at Lintulammentie 1K, and at :
