Dare-devil travel show Madventures triumphed in last night’s ‘Golden TV Awards’, winning both best programme and best presenter.

ImageSo successful has the show been, that Riku Rantala – who was named best presenter – was actually up against Madventures co-host and camera man Tunna Milonoff for the prestigious award. In accepting it, he also emphasized just how much he owed to Tunna.

In an interview with 65DN last year, Rantala explained that it was Tunna who inspired him to become a Madventurer. Friends at school, Tunna was the first of two to go globe-trotting (in order, according to Riku, to avoid military service). Upon his return, he strongly encouraged Riku to come with him on his next adventure.

Rantala explained that the pair will now be focusing on writing a Madventures book. Riku has been out of commission for a while Mad-venturing wise, having badly hurt his back.

The hit show follows the antics of the two backpackers as they make their way through bizarre and dangerous locations and customs. These have included Voodoo ceremonies in Africa, an allegedly cannibalistic cult in India and being vomited on in a Japanese sex hotel.

There is no crew and at the beginning of the most recent series – filmed (in English) in 2008 – Riku had a valuable diamond surgically placed beneath his skin to act as ‘insurance.’

Madventures has been successfully distributed worldwide having been sold, in November, to the National Geographic Channel.
