The
Accident and Emergency Department at OuluUniversityHospital
was unsurprisingly busy this weekend due to a combination of flu and alcohol.
‘A lot of people have taken sick
leave with flu and we’ve had a lot of people coming in with injuries,’ one of
the nurses told Kaleva.
The numbers of people going to
hospital with flu was described as ‘normal’ for the time of year. However, there
was sharp increase in people going to hospital with ‘abdominal pains’ and other
symptoms of festive over-indulgence.
Of the twenty people queuing in
Accident and Emergency on Saturday night, many had been involved in violent
altercations, likely fuelled by heavy drinking though nurses on duty described
this as ‘no worse than a normal Saturday night.’
