A 25 year-old woman, with underlying health problems, died of swine flu in the ‘Oulu District’ in mid October.
 Oulu University Hospital The woman was the first person in Finland to die of the condition. The Ministry of Health would not give any further details about her.
The woman was diagnosed with a ‘respiratory tract infection’ caused by the H1N1 virus on 16 October. She was treated with Tamiflu on the same day and it was thought she would recover. An investigation into the circumstances of her death is underway.
The Ministry informed the press that the death occurred in a hospital in ‘Northern Ostrobothnia’ and told 65DN that it was in the ‘Oulu district.’ However, they would not confirm exactly which hospital.
‘I’m not sure. I don’t have that knowledge. It has not been released to protect the identity of the patient. They’re not telling exactly which hospital it is,’ said a spokesman.
Nevertheless, news reports last night interviewed doctors from Oulu University Hospital and 65DN were told to telephone a doctor at Oulu University Hospital for further information.
530 cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Finland this autumn, most of them in the north of the country.
