Milk Straight From the Cow Makes Finnish Come Back Print E-mail

Forget skimmed, semi-skimmed, even full fat milk! As of this month so called 'Olden Times' milk, straight from the cow, will be available in Finnish supermarkets.

ImageThough it has pasturised to get rid of bacteria, no fat has been taken away from this milk and it hasn't been mixed meaning that the cream sits on the top just like it did in the 'olden days.' And with a 4.4 percent fat content, it is way creamier than the mere 1.5 percent fat in Finnish semi-skimmed milk or the three percent in so called 'full milk.'

The reintroduction of the milk has led to widespread discussion on Finnish internet forums about fat content and taste. The milk is distinguished by a brown coloured carton. Full fat is red, semi-skimmed is dark blue and skimmed is light blue.
