This year’s Chinese Spring Festival lasts 15 days from January 29th to February 12th. According to Chinese astrology, 2006 is the year of the dog. The first day of the New Year is for welcoming the gods of the heaven and earth. Usually family members will be reunited and have a sumptuous supper together. The last day of the New Year is celebrated as the Lantern Festival. A traditional Chinese food, which is called “Yuan Xiao”, will be served on that day. Every year the Oulu Chinese Student Union holds a Spring Festival party for Chinese people in Oulu to meet and celebrate. This year’s New Year party is planned to be held in February.
