Poplars Give Way to District Heating Print E-mail

ImageThirteen great poplar trees on Laanaoja next to Raksila have been removed to give way to district heating works. The rest of the poplars in the area are also to but cut down later this year as the district heating-related works continue. New plants will not arrive until next spring, says Taina Penttilä, a gardener of Oulu City.

Image’Multiculturalism’ is starting to go out of fashion in Oulu with more and more columns devoted to criticising it in Kaleva, but this didn’t stop the city’s ’Multicultural Integration Service’ putting on a lively Mothers Day celebration which included Middle-Eastern dancing, Sudanese chanting and free cake to ‘bring cultures together’.

ImageOulu police ran into cannabis growers in two separate incidents during the weekend, reports Kaleva. On both occasions the police had entered the apartment for an unrelated reason. Police confiscated the plants and filed criminal reports.

An elderly woman was the latest victim of the hand bag thief on Saturday afternoon, reports Kaleva. The woman was using a rollator for her walk in Myllytulli Nahkatehtaankatu. She had her bag hanging from the handle when a man in his twenties snatched it when he cycled past her. The police are investigating.
