Oulu police have freed the suspect in recent city centre rape case claiming that there is no longer any reason to hold him. The 24 year-old man turned himself into police and was arrested by three days in custody he was let go.

Police have detained a 24 year-old man on suspicion of carrying out the rape which occurred in the city centre in the early hours of last Sunday morning. The man gave himself up to police on Wednesday but strenuously denies the raping the woman.

Police found the body of a man in the Oulujoki river, around Oulu, on Moday, the Kaleva has reported. The corpse was dredged up where the river runs through Ainolanpuisto, infront of Laaserentinsaari island.

A man dressed in black trousers and a white sweater tried to rob a branch of Siwa, the convenience store, on Paltomontie in Toppila on Monday evening. The man entered the shop, threatened the female shop assistant with a knife and demanded money.

A stone covered in what seems to be the ancient script runes has been uncovered in Eksymäjärvi (in the Oulu region), reports the Ilta-Sanomat newspaper. The intriguing find has been sent away for examination.
