An unnamed single mother who contracted swine flu in Oulu confessed herself ‘astonished’ with the treatment she received from the city, according to a report in Kaleva. Her three children, none of whom display any symptoms of the disease, have been forced to stay inside a quarantine space–despite being in her words ‘completely healthy.’

Man Dies As Vehicle Ignites In Police Car Chase Print E-mail

A 46-year-old Vantaa man died fleeing the Haukipudas police in his estate car on Tuesday last week, according to a statement by Jokilaakso police station. The man, who had accelerated away from police for 3 km at speeds of around 130 km/h, veered off the road as the passenger side of the car ‘caught fire explosively.’

Teenager Drives Moped Into Lamppost Print E-mail

A 15-year-old described as ‘under the influence’ hit a lamppost on Oulu’s Pikisaari after losing control of his moped. The driver was injured as a result of the collision, which caused his helmet to ‘fly off,’ and was rushed to the Oulu University Hospital for immediate treatment.

A terrace block of 14 rented council houses has been burnt up in a fire in Rannantie, Haukipudas, making as many residents homeless. While no injuries occurred as a result of the blaze, two apartments were described as ‘completely destroyed.’
