I´ve lived abroad for more than 16 years and tried to catch up with “Nederpop” culture. But, as I discovered, it’s almost impossible to simultaneously absorb new cultures and, whether politics, literature, or music, stay tuned in to the trends in Holland. I heard Anouk´s first hit–shame on me!–nine years after it was released and the country went crazy for it.
