A shopping complex which sells surplus brand clothing at knock-down prices is to open in or around Oulu, it has emerged.

‘Outlet Village’ will be Finland’s first such brand outlet trading area. According to Business Oulu sources, a sight has been earmarked for the shop. It will be built over the next year on Valtatie 4.

Outlet Village is a chain of factory surplus stores which sell brand-name clothing for between 30 and 70 percent less than the normal High Street price.

Oulu’s Outlet Village will have between 10 outlet stores and negotiations are currently underway with a number of companies to decide which ones.

Outlet stores began life in the eastern USA in the 1930s when factories offered slightly damaged clothes for sale for significantly below the market price. The first ever outlet store was opened in 1936 to sell a brand of men’s clothing. In the 1970s, outlet stores began opening across the USA and more recently they have spread to Europe.
